04/28/2007 The Mormons

A lot of people complain about the slant that private, opposing groups of the LDS church put on the LDS church.

But PBS is known as a pretty fair broadcasting entity, and puts quality programming in their lineup that is typically award winning pieces.

PBS is broadcasting a piece about Mormons.

RE: http://www.pbs.org/mormons/

I realize, PBS is one of those anti-Mormon, non-truthful broadcasting stations NOW that this piece is coming out on their network. But just think of all of the good times you’ve had with them in the past, and how much PBS has contributed to this world of knowledge and eduction before you judge this segment…

FYI, I looked at local PBS listings for this broadcast, and I could not find it locally. That doesn’t mean it won’t be aired locally, but if it is aired on local PBS stations, it should be April 30th and May 1st at 9pm.

04/20/2007 - Earth Day

by Captain Pirate on Apr.19, 2007, under WebCasts

Another earth day. Though it only gets celebrated by some, once per year and other not at all. There are those that celebrated often.

Im launching a few more informative environmental blogs this year..

Why a blog? I figure it’s better than sending out 40,000 pamphlets to inform using up massive natural resources in the process.

I do most of my communications via the internet.. I know, the internet uses natural resources too. It’s a catch 22. But I honestly think that it is less excessive than wacking a few hundred tress to communicate.

Imagine the cost of sending those letters. There is the trees, the extraction of the trees, the processing of the trees, the delivery of the trees and tree products, the redelievery of the tree products, and possibly the redelivery again (manufacturer, wholesaler, distributor, retailer, consumer, post man, waste management, etc)..
There is energy energy energy used at so many levels just to send a letter.

I use an eco-friendly LCD monitor that hibernates when not being used, as does my computer. So the environmental friendliness may not be 100% environmentally friendly, I do believe it is very efficient comparitively.

I haven’t completed the process, but I have initiated a propane conversion of my car. While it still uses fossil fuels, it is a bit less taxing on the environment.

Now is this in effort to save us from global warming? Partly I guess. I mean I think that human consumption and energy usage does contribute to global warming if only just a little bit. But the bigger picture is.

Cleaner air
Cleaner water
Cleaner soil (yes, I know clean soil?? It’s all just dirty isn’t it! LOL)
Cleaner food
Brighter clearer sunsets
Healthier children
By cleaner I obviously mean less toxic. Maybe not COMPLETELY non-toxic, but atleast LESS toxic..

Will I make a difference? I hope so. But more importantly, I hope that more people collectively make a difference.

BTW- http://www.carbonfund.org/site/more/media/356 This is interesting!

Happy Earth Day!!

Tonight’s topic is ‘racism in the media’..

I think it is highly important for our society to communicate so that we can eliminate the fear that causes racism in our country..

04/10/2007 If I were…

by Captain Pirate on Apr.10, 2007, under WebCasts

If I were LDS, I would like to go to church with those Sweet In Person..

I would like to listen to the woman with a definate point of view who may stop me in the hallway between meetings and say. “I had a thought this weekend that might interest you”.

I would like to know that woman who instead of coming over uninvited to bug about the latest gossip, who would come knowing she is welcome to talk about life in general not any particular person..

I would like to know the woman who instead of boasting about her latest church calling in the relief society, would praise the man down the street who fought cancer into remission, or about a good cause that just acheived triumph for the people of the world.

If I were Catholic, I would like to know the Most True of the people. The woman who is like the LDS woman above. Maybe she takes part in the good causes, and gets her hands dirty. The one who while a nun or a devotee is not afraid to pick up the Bible and maybe even question it. And instead of being a political figure, is a nuturer and a lover of life and a respector of persons.

If I were Hindu I would ache to know the Most Good of them. The man who would rather starve himself to death in a protest of war rather than fight. I man who looks after humans as if they were his brother and sisters, or his children or is own…
I would like to know the man who when he has something to say that it may not be political to him, it changes governments simply because of the simplicity of it.

If I were I Christian I would like to be like Courageous Man who braves his way through the inner city streets on foot or his bike, to go to the youth ministry so that he can enjoy what he loves in life. He loves service to the unfortunate, and even though he doesn’t get paid a dime he goes to this ministry daily for 10 years of his 20’s and 30’s, and brings his wife with him. Who instead of fighting for the mighty dollar, gives all that he is to the Lord in service of others.

If I were a Hare Krishna, I would be as the sister Through Affection loves all that she comes in contact with. Trying to rid herself of karma to be with the love of her life, the Lord whom she calls Krishna. She has a small home but it’s always full of people in need. She has a big family, but she doesn’t have a stretch SUV to haul them around. She is the one who embraces life and looks forward to the next selfless deed.

These are all representations of people who have touched my life. If I were any of these people, I would be much closer to satisified.
But who in this world is perfect? However, these people that I mentioned come close.

Life has a pattern, it doesn’t matter which walk of life you come from as much as it matters how it strengthens you.

04/08/2007 FAIR

by Captain Pirate on Apr.08, 2007, under WebCasts

This discussion addresses FAIR (Foundation for Apologetic Infomation & Research) and their critisism the new video titled Good News for LDS.

I’ve have some aquaintenances who are very supportive of this FAIR group, and they are most vocal about it.

So I’ve made two broadcasts this week on the subject, and this is the last of them.

The first one was on April 5th.

As just a recap on this broadcast, I discuss FAIR’s points made about the video as to WHY these people may have made the video, and then I wrap up with talking about communication and how important it is for people to talk and to make their feelings known.

Im glad that the LDS missionaries go out and spread their message, and I am equally glad that other groups will confront them on what they disagree with.

So often people do not know what the LDS believe, and when a missionary comes to their door it is their first contact with LDS. They don’t know what questions to ask, what LDS believe, etc..

So when people put out videos or pamphlets about the LDS, people get BOTH sides of the discussion about such things as the apostacy, the priesthood, etc. Instead of just getting the LDS point of view.
